What’s New at Northwood

Northwood acquires Metropolitan and names building

Northwood Office, the publisher of Ballantyne Magazine, continues to develop Ballantyne and expand its Greater Charlotte footprint. Looking back on 2020 and ahead to the future, the company shares the following updates with our magazine readers.

In October 2020, Northwood Investors purchased Metropolitan, a mixed-use development in Midtown. Northwood Investors is the privately held, global real estate investment and management firm that established Northwood Office to fulfill office space needs. Metropolitan adds 170,589 square feet of Class A office space and 171,644 square feet of retail space to the Northwood portfolio. Northwood is working closely with 505 Design on plans for a refresh of the exterior at Metropolitan.

Overlook is a 328,000-square-foot, 11-story Class A office building that meets standards that have evolved during the pandemic.
Adjacent to Overlook, Towerview at Ballantyne will become the first residential space in the heart of the Corporate Park.

In other news, the office building project at 13146 Ballantyne Corporate Place now has a name: Overlook. Staff involved in the branding chose Overlook because the building’s location will overlook the future development of Ballantyne. The name also suggests both a high point and a view. As we previously covered in our fall 2020 issue, Overlook is a 328,000-square-foot, 11-story Class A office building that meets standards that have evolved during the pandemic. The building is the first one being built in Ballantyne under Northwood’s ownership. The completion of Overlook is expected by April.

The EPA recognized Overlook in November 2020 as being Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR. This means the building met strict energy efficiency design targets and is intended to create fewer greenhouse gas emissions and save money on energy bills over the lifetime of the building.

Adjacent to Overlook, Towerview at Ballantyne will become the first residential space in the heart of the Corporate Park. Construction on Towerview continues to proceed. Northwood Ravin, the project’s developer under the Northwood Investors umbrella, expects the first units to be available for rent by early summer 2021.

Towerview’s studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom rentals will be luxurious. They will feature designer lighting, quartz countertops, custom cabinetry and rain showerheads. Building amenities will include a rooftop lounge with views of Ballantyne, a saltwater pool and an expansive gym.

As for Ballantyne Reimagined — the plan for making Ballantyne a more urban, walkable environment — Northwood is preparing the former golf course for pre-construction phasing. Northwood’s community relations team also continues to plan activities and initiatives, and they will share updates in the coming months.

“Recognizing the shift in our society’s wants and needs, we are excited to bring a sense of normalcy to Ballantyne by creating safe and meaningful social experiences that will connect, inspire and positively impact our local community,” says Hailey Rorie, director of community relations.
