By Jodi Werner Greenwald in partnership with goBallantyne
Northwood Office hosted a variety of events and initiatives in 2021, expressing its commitment to the health and safety of its customers and visitors. Most notably, the company activated the former golf course and welcomed the public into Ballantyne’s Backyard, the area’s newest community park. Northwood also broke ground on Ballantyne Reimagined, the next phase of mixed-use development in Ballantyne.
Here are the Top 10 Ballantyne Moments of 2021.
The Golf Club at Ballantyne became a community park.
Now called Ballantyne’s Backyard, an area of more than 100 acres — land that used to be a golf course — has become a favorite meetup spot for picnics, runs, catch-and-release fishing, and signature events like Markets at 11, Live at 11, Fitness at 11 and Ballantyne Movie Nights. Since opening in May, Northwood’s community programs in Ballantyne’s Backyard have attracted over 70,000 visitors. Also, the Ballantyne Running Club and area high school cross-country teams now use the paths in Ballantyne’s Backyard as their preferred courses.
Markets at 11 reinvigorated the Ballantyne community.
In partnership with retail event consultant Esther & Elsa, Northwood kicked off a monthly outdoor market series on May 8 called Markets at 11. Every second Saturday from May through December, thousands of people visited Ballantyne’s Backyard to shop local vendors, listen to live music, enjoy seasonal activities, spend time with family, and support food and beverage vendors. The vibrant gatherings reinvigorated the Ballantyne area during a challenging time. In October specifically, a pumpkin giveaway, a spooky trail and 55 local vendors helped attract more than 10,000 visitors.
